Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick

As one of the largest Irish-American organizations in Northeastern Pennsylvania, and one of the oldest in the United States, the Friendly Sons actively work to celebrate Irish Heritage and to support the Greater Pittston Area communities through Stewardship, Scholarship and Service.

What We Do

Guided by Irish Heritage, the Friendly Sons are devoted to faith, fellowship, and service — preserving our shared traditions, supporting education through scholarships, and strengthening the Greater Pittston community through volunteerism and generosity.

Stewardship of Irish Heritage

As sons of Ireland, we are called to be stewards of a living heritage — one rooted in faith, family, friendship, and the enduring spirit of the Irish people. Stewardship of this heritage means more than remembering the past; it means carrying forward the generosity, humor, resilience, and love of community that define our shared story. Through fellowship, service, and the celebration of Irish culture, we honor those who came before us and ensure that their legacy continues to inspire future generations.

Scholarship Support

Honoring the Irish tradition of generosity and learning, the Friendly Sons proudly support the next generation through education. Each year, we award two scholarships to outstanding high school students from Pittston Area High School and Wyoming Area High School, and every four years, a full-tuition college scholarship (made possible through a past member) to King’s College. Through these gifts, we celebrate our heritage by investing in promise, character, and the future of our community.

Service to the Community

Rooted in the Irish spirit of neighborliness and generosity, the Friendly Sons are dedicated to serving the Greater Pittston community. Through volunteer efforts, support for youth sports, and contributions to other worthy local nonprofits, we strive to strengthen the bonds of friendship and service that define our mission. Our commitment is simple — to be an active force for good whenever and wherever we are needed.
